You know what I’m gonna miss the most about the Cromwell hotel? Hanging out with all the furs outside at the front entrance. The cool crisp air, the wet leaves from the rain, the darkness from the burned out lights, the laughter of friends returning from a late night food run, the massive cloud hanging in the air from all the vape pens.

2009 was mine. Was at the old old hotel. I remember Duncan the husky with their balloons in the atrium and evil Duncan going around popping them. I remember JD Puppy being amazing as always. I remember Cooper Tom and his Peewee Herman fursuit—which I call the Peewee Furman suit— scaring the absolute crap outta me. I remember being a volunteer and opening the doors to let the fursuiters in for the fursuit parade and two particular Disney fursuiters at the front of the line being very naughty 😳. I remember meeting fursuiters for the first time and truly understanding the magic that comes with suiting. I remember this absolutely amazing and adorable border collie fursuiter who was on the bucket brigade and being in awe of how amazing he was. To this day I regret not remembering his name.

Considering contracts involved, most conventions usually negotiate X-number of years, and the mold issue was only recent years. Granted, there were other critical issues that led to a change of venue, but certainly mold was the obvious.

At least the hotel wasn't intentionally trying harm folks, and I speak of this being a long-time follower of this convention, even well into it's previous banner. Waterbury ... ugh.

Pretty much. The hotel staff were ignorant and unhelpful, you had to badger them to get anything done. Even simple requests, like changing water stations. Pool was unkempt, cutting up peoples feet. Hotel restaurant was getting people food posioning. Hotel was turning off Atrium lights at evening hours, which apparently annoyed the local FM. We were only there a few years, back when we were Fur Fright.

Between the multiple changes of ownership, that's what really killed the last venue. Hotel staff, for the most part, were much better to deal with. On occastion, I would withhold thst against some of the individuals that worked the hotel resturant, at least until I found out about the staff shortage they were enduring. The hotel itself was great when we first found the place, but the final few years it just deteriorated so fast.

So when I see messages on here or on Twitter (which, I hardly use) going on about the mold, and such and such issues that demand action. It's understandable, and I get it, because nobody else wants to get involved with those kinds of conditions. Many conventions - not just furry ones, don't have the leverage to simply just yank the contact, because going against it carries a hefty fine that usually spells "The End" for an organization like that. As quirky as that establishment was, it wasn't always about the bad, but specific folks want to try to strong-arm and shame a convention over something that wasn't controllable.

Again. Mold was the more obvious and pressing issue that lead to a venue change. Very little or no upkeep was done with the place, and that basically cascaded into many issues. Didn't have to be this way, but the owners of these hotel chains knew well to strangle the property until it fails. Won't be surprised if it winds-up being demoed like Waterbury.

I called the hotel shortly after they closed, because I was curious if they were gonna mention anything on the answering system, and a young lady picked up. Apparently she was literally the only person in the entire building. We talked for about an hour and exchanged numbers because I wanted to check in with her in a year to see how she made out. Unfortunately I lost her number. 😢

I did the 621 minimum thing once for almost a month for a crazy thing doing back to back trade shows. By the end of it I was totally exhausted, but I managed. Some of the other folks were getting less sleep and they were producing negative work effort after a couple of days of only sleeping two or three hours per day.

Does anyone else find that the chats icon looks vaguely like crotch or something, when cropped into a circle and zoomed out?

On the occasion I look at the chats icon I’ll squint and wonder, “what is that again?” Before it comes back into focus.
The forehead crease is just so deep. The black all starts to blend together, there’s simultaneously too much and too little for this illusion. And the eyebrows well, I think that’s enough from me on the matter.

Sure there's going to be some stuff related to whatever the con flavor is, but a lot of people just show up to be convention goers and do nothing about the theme. One thing that is shocking, is how fast this place went downhill when they cut the power to the building/HVAC system.

They had the A/C cranked for a few years, it seemed to keep the mold from taking off.

The systems were failing in disrepair, engineer I always talking to keep trying to keep it cool for us but the systems were either broken or not able to keep up and it was out there hands cause main office would not want to get it fixed

Oh well that’s fair if it’s a quality non dairy alternative or like a water, fruit sherbety thing.
But when it’s non dairy desert loaded with corn syrup, cookies, etc masquerading as ice cream that’s what I don’t like.
